I can’t even begin to tell you how close to home this hits. I gave birth to a son in April of this year, and we planned for an unmedicated hospital birth throughout the entire pregnancy. We had a midwife. We hired a doula. We took all the classes, and read all the books. I, too, was terrified of being a plus sized expectant mother. In fact, it’s the only reason I wasn’t ecstatic about our little surprise. However, like you, I also had a nearly perfect pregnancy. I felt better than ever. I went to 41 weeks and 3 days when my water broke without being in labor. There was meconium in my water, so they had to start Pitocin to induce. This was not part of our plan, nor was having an on call doctor we had never met. After 26 hours of hard, Pitocin filled, no pain medicine labor (the epidural failed…twice), I still hadn’t progressed past 5cm despite max level Pitocin and all my doula and I had done to get the baby to drop. I finally caved and asked for a C-Section. Our perfectly healthy baby boy ended up being almost 11lbs. He was never going to come out on his own. Even though I knew it was necessary, I just recently made peace with not having my ideal birth. My milk also never came in which was a whole other added layer of heart break. I still have my moments where the sadness over my birth experience and inability to breast feed hits me, but I’m mostly just thankful for our perfect son. Stories like this help tremendously to know I’m not alone. Thank you! ♥️

If you're able to hire a doula, I'd highly recommend getting that support!
