Make sure you prep your partner to assertively advocate for you. I could not breathe during most of my c-section and the anesthesiologist would not give me oxygen to help me breathe. She kept saying that it just felt that way because of the anesthesia meds, but I literally couldn’t breathe unless I turned my head all the way to the right. I missed the whole thing just trying to stay alive.

I was also a plus size pregnant woman and I was 41.I had 2 miscarriages before having a successful pregnancy. This was 24 years ago and I came across a lot of inappropriate comments. The worse coming from the tech doing my ultrasound, she was the same tech that did my ultrasounds from my other pregnancies that resulted in miscarriages so she knew my history. She kept telling me cause of my weight I was going to have a big baby ,my baby was 7lbs 11oz.Another time she was asking me about what I eat,she said do you keep KFC in business and do I sit in front of the TV with a bowl of cherries. My husband and I were so shocked we didn’t say anything to her and we when we went in to see the doctor we also didn’t say anything .Im not one to let someone disrespect me like that, I went home and cried and was embarrassed. To this day I can’t believe that I let her get away with that.I had a beautiful baby girl,She’ll be 25 in October 2025 .To anyone that is getting treated like this by anyone say something report them, It’s not ok to treat anyone like that.

One of the worst parts is the new waistline. It's been 14 yrs since my last kid... and still... my underwear roll down, creating a hard wire-effect which is painful...or my skirts rise up to meet my bra band. I really miss having a waistline, mostly because that's how clothes are made.
They're not made for us.
And it's extra hard finding the right size. Doesn't help women's sizes are already completely arbitrary!!!

I'm not that large, but this apron really makes it nearly impossible to find cute and affordable clothes.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I had a horrible time during my pregnancy because I was plus sized. Much more from the doctors than the nurses. I means a lot to hear someone in the medical field share these words.

I was told at 16wks that the hospital I intended to deliver at recently changed BMI guidance and would not allow me to deliver. I had to switch not only to a new hospital but also a new practice that delivered at the much larger, university hospital. I strongly encourage newly expecting moms to ask your OB if your intended delivery hospital has any BMI restrictions! This caused a lot of anxiety and shame for me not finding out until 16weeks along.
