Plus Size Pregnancy Must Haves – 29 Items You’ll Want To Own

Welcome to your pregnancy gift guide – see our list of 29 plus size pregnancy must haves!

We'll walk you through all the plus size pregnancy gifts you might benefit from organized into three categories; pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.

This list is special because other parents recommend each item.

You don’t have to take our word for it (though you certainly can!); we received loads of input from parents as we curated this list just for YOU!

This must-have list has a bit of flexibility as some items might not speak to you. We recommend plus size pregnancy essentials if you're looking specifically for the necessities.

This pregnancy gift guide is an extensive list of items you can pick and choose from, which has been carefully curated with plus size bodies in mind.

Bodies of all sizes deserve access to tools that help make our lives easier, like being able to reach to shave your legs (or no shame if you prefer not to shave!).

Plus Size Pregnancy Gift Guide

Ready to begin? Let’s start with plus size pregnancy gift suggestions specifically. Be sure to click on any of the images below that are of interest to you!

1. Plus Size Maternity Clothes

When you’re plus size, you want access to the cute maternity clothes that people of all sizes get to wear. Unfortunately, options are far more limited, and often more expensive.

If you’re wanting the maternity store experience, Motherhood Maternity is one of the few stores which offer an in-store plus size selection and their Sales Associates are often super helpful.

If the in-store experience isn’t a good fit for you, Amazon has an extensive selection of plus size maternity clothing options, including plus size maternity jeans. Best of all, Amazon has an easy return policy if something doesn’t fit quite right.

Want even more clothing options? Be sure to check out the Ultimate Guide To Plus Size Maternity Clothes.

2. Plus Size Belly Band

This band will become a lifesaver as your belly grows (and shrinks postpartum!).

Belly bands aren’t just “bands” – they’re also tanks, belts, and girdles.

See our full plus size belly band resource and below you’ll find my favorites.

3. Plus Size Maternity Underwear

So maybe you don’t want your partner to buy you underwear as a gift, but I couldn’t leave this item off the list because it’s a real necessity (and for some, could even feel like a luxury)!

Once again, underwear, like belly bands, comes in many different styles. What works for one person might not work for another.

You can see many options via this article – The Best Plus Size Maternity Underwear

4. Plus Size Nursing Wrap Sleep Bra

Most of the time, you’ll hear people talking about needing a plus size nursing bra during pregnancy. After interviewing lactation experts, however, I’ve learned waiting until after your milk comes in is a good idea.

You don’t know what size your breasts will become. And, as you breastfeed, your bra’s cup size will continue to fluctuate.

During pregnancy, your breasts will start to change and might feel sore early on. A little support makes a significant impact!

These are reasons why a plus size nursing wrap sleep bra is the perfect plus size pregnancy gift anytime! It can provide you with the support you need throughout your pregnancy and well into parenthood.

For even more options, see our full list of plus size nursing bras.

5. Plus Size Compression Socks

Swollen feet and pregnancy pretty much go hand-in-hand! Knowing where you can quickly order a pair of plus size compression socks is essential if you need them!

6. Wide Width Slippers

Soft wide Slippers Memory Foam

I think new slippers, and especially memory foam slippers, should be a gift every pregnant person receives!

Putting on a fluffy new pair of wide width slippers can feel like walking on clouds for tired pregnant feet.

7. Insoles

Speaking of sore and swollen feet, grab some new shoe insoles!

Many people experience their shoe size changing during and/or after pregnancy (sorry about that), so you probably don't want to invest in a custom pair of insoles right now. Picking up an inexpensive pair can be worth every penny!

8. Belly Oil

While your bump might not look the way you expect it to (see our article, What's a B Belly?) or show as early as you want – it will change!

It will grow and your skin will stretch!

Knowing this, having a belly oil to soothe your skin, either by your bed or in your bathroom is helpful!

Rubbing your belly also helps you to tune into your changing body and your growing baby.

We recommend Earth Mama Angel Baby or Bio-Oil.

9. Chafing Stick

Since we're talking about oil to soothe the skin, chafing is something plus size people are all too familiar with.

As your body changes and becomes hotter (thanks to your increased blood flow) during pregnancy, you might want to keep some of these products on hand!

We recommend Body Glide and Monistat chafing powder gel.

And we're just going to leave this here because you might need it if you find your bust being super sweaty…Megababe Sweat Absorbing Body Powder.

10. Pregnancy Sleep Pillow

As your belly grows, sleep can become more and more elusive (and not just because you have to pee all the time).

A sleep pillow can help you to sleep better as it allows you to position and support your body for maximum comfort!

This pillow allows you to get into (and stay in) a comfortable position, following your medical professional’s recommendation to sleep on your side during pregnancy. Technically, it’s best to sleep on your left side when you're pregnant because this position helps to increase the amount of blood that reaches your placenta and baby.

While this position can be achieved by keeping a pillow between your legs or purchasing a wedge pillow, a sleep pillow helps to limit how often you'll toss and turn while you're asleep.

While many different sleep pillows might work for your body, plus size parents have voted and say these are the best options – C-Shape Full Body Pillow and Cooling U Shaped Body Pillow

Before we move on, all of your senses are heightened during pregnancy which may affect your sleep.

If you have a partner who snores, you might want to invest in sleep headphones.

For a fun gift idea, you can even pick up a pair of baby headphones to play music for your little one in utero.

11. Fetal Doppler

Purchasing a doppler for your home is not needed. It can cause unnecessary stress if you're unable to find your baby's heartbeat on your own and are prone to panicking unnecessarily when it comes to medical procedures.

An at-home doppler is listed here because many plus size parents have asked what machines work well for larger-bodied people. This machine reportedly works well for plus size pregnancies and might be especially helpful to bring peace of mind for parents who have experienced a pregnancy loss in the past.

So, while I don't encourage all parents to buy one, if it's something you truly want, the options below come highly recommended.

12. Wide Width Glider

Most gliders and rocking chairs are not designed with plus size parents and grandparents in mind.

We have a list full of options you can find here, 7 Extra-Wide Glider And Plus Size Rocking Chair Nursery Options.

13. Wide Baby Gate

These gates can be inconvenient enough with their tricky locks, so you don't want to ALSO struggle with maneuvering your body through your gate.

Below you'll see wide width baby gates to provide you with more room as you walk through them (you’ll still have to deal with the tricky locks though, nothing we can do about that!). You can see our full list of recommendations here – The Best Extra-Wide Baby Gates For Plus Size Parents

14. Razor Extender

Giraffe Razor Extension Handle

You do not need to feel obligated to shave any part of your body, especially during pregnancy!

With that said, if you want to shave, you might need a little help during pregnancy. There's no shame in purchasing what you need, and a razor extender can be super helpful!

15. Seatbelt Extender

An item people shy away from talking about is a safety issue which is important to address – seatbelt extenders.

If you can't buckle your belt because of your expanding body, then you need a seatbelt extender.

Your safety matters!

While there are options available via Amazon, like the one below, please be sure to check with your car manufacturer to make sure you're using a seatbelt extender compatible with your car.

Also, as your belly grows, driving might become a little tricky if your stomach is touching the steering wheel. Check to see if your steering wheel can be adjusted up to accommodate – most can!

There are even more items you might need during a plus size pregnancy which can be too embarrassing for a gift guide so we’re just going to drop this link here

16. Pregnancy App

When you do a quick search on your phone you’ll find many free and inexpensive pregnancy apps.

I'm recommending you finding an app that isn't just week-by-week but one that helps you to reduce stress with meditations.

While you're searching for apps on your phone, don't forget to subscribe to our Plus Mommy Podcast. You can subscribe for free via your favorite podcast app. You'll hear all kinds of helpful plus size pregnancy tips and inspiring plus size birth stories

Regardless of what app you get, free or paid, or if you decide a pregnancy app isn’t your thing, find ways to focus on reducing stress throughout your pregnancy.

One beneficial way to destress is exercising. You can find more thoughts and advice on this here – 7 Plus Size Pregnancy Exercise Tips.

17. Plus Size Pregnancy Guide

I can't help but recommended a resource I poured seven years of experience into as a certified childbirth educator – My Plus Size Pregnancy Guide and audiobook.

This guide covers everything you could ever want to know about being plus size and pregnant. It contains evidence-based information presented in a positive and supportive manner.

“Downloading the My Plus Size Pregnancy Guide was the first and most important step I took on the path of agency and education in my pregnancy. Reading this e-book changed the whole trajectory of my pregnancy and my son's birth for the better. In my most vulnerable state, My Plus Size Pregnancy Guide made me feel knowledgeable, powerful, and positive about pregnancy and birth as a plus size woman.” – Mia O'Malley

Plus Size Labor And Delivery Gifts

18. Exercise Ball

An exercise ball, AKA birth ball, can be used throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum to reduce back pain. It can also help bring your baby into the correct position during labor.

Once your baby is born, this magic ball is great to bounce on as you hold your fussy baby, gently bouncing them to sleep.

It’s important to note that the exercise balls available in stores like Target often have weight limits around 250 – 300 pounds.

You can purchase the ball below on Amazon that has a 2,200-pound weight limit and you’ll never have to worry. It also comes with lots of items to support you throughout pregnancy and postpartum.

19. Peanut Ball

A peanut ball is such an incredible tool to use during labor! It can help you to get into multiple positions while in bed, as you’ll see in the video below.

If you’re giving birth in a medical facility that doesn’t offer peanut balls or planning a home birth, you might want to consider purchasing a peanut ball for your upcoming birth.

20. Plus Size Labor Gown

Did you know that you don’t have to wear a hospital gown if you’re giving birth in a hospital?

You can choose to wear your own clothes (like a plus size sports bra and plus size flowy skirt) or purchase a plus size labor gown.

Labor gowns are designed to allow for monitoring during labor and breastfeeding after childbirth, while still providing you with modesty, comfort, and a little bit of style. They are not only functional but also fashionable!

Here's one of our favorites below that goes to a 2X above and Lila Laborwear's curve sizing goes to size 24 – 30.

Plus Size Postpartum Gifts

21. Plus Size Robe

Even if you're not planning to breastfeed, postpartum is a very naked experience.

Your breast will leak, your baby will spit up and have diaper blowouts. You’ll find yourself removing your clothing often.

You'll likely want to spend a lot of time wearing a robe so you deserve something comfy and cozy that comes with pockets!

A new robe is one of the best postpartum gifts, and this one goes to 5XL/6XL!

We also love Dressed To Deliver

22. Overnight Pads & Diapers

And now onto a practical “gift” – giant pads or even plus size adult diapers for postpartum bleeding.

These items are a necessity, so you might as well add them to your list or purchase them now.

23. Frida Mom

This gift is one moms secretly tell one another they need. So, I'm going to put it out in the open! This Frida peri bottle is a million times better than the free one they give you at the hospital.

TMI, but you need to know about this – following a vaginal birth, your privates will be extremely swollen. If you needed stitches (or even if you didn’t tear at all!), it can burn while you pee.

The Frida peri bottle provides a steady stream of water that can ease discomfort and also help you to clean yourself.

If you have a cesarean birth, your body will be sore while recovering from surgery. It can be harder to reach and bend. You will still bleed postpartum, and a peri bottle helps you to get cleaner easier and quicker than using toilet paper alone.

Frida is especially handy for plus size parents who might need a little extra support reaching while cleaning. You can learn a lot more here.

You might also consider purchasing a bidet!

Bidets are fantastic not only for making bathroom trips more comfortable but also cleaning cloth diapers and kid's little potties.

24. Bathing Wipes

There are many jokes made about how moms never have time to shower. All jokes aside, it's often a reality.

I sure encourage you to invest in a baby carrier (you’ll see options at the end of this guide). A carrier will allow a partner or friend to get in some good baby snuggle time, so you can shower!

Unfortunately, you won’t always have an extra set of hands to support you, so bathing wipes are a great backup plan if you need a quick wipe down.

25. Postpartum Support Belt

If you purchase a belly band during pregnancy, it can also be worn as a postpartum support belt.

If you require additional support for your belly or back post-birth, you might want to buy a belt that's designed to support you throughout postpartum. A support belt can be especially beneficial if you’ve had a cesarean birth.

26. Breast Pump

If breastfeeding is part of your postpartum plan, you’ll want to consider purchasing a pump. Whether you plan to return to work and will pump at the office or you intend to only pump so that baby can eat while you’re taking a night off (which you SO deserve!), a pump is good to have on-hand.

The two most popular breast pumps plus size moms recommend are the Haakaa, and the second is the Spectra Baby pump. Then be sure to check out our plus size pumping resource

Not all breastfeeding pillows are size-friendly, but we have a list of highly recommended plus size nursing pillows including the one we love above.

28. Plus Size Nursing Bra

This is one last breastfeeding necessity that I can’t leave off the list – a nursing bra! Along with the nursing wrap sleep bra listed above (so comfy!), you’ll want a few plus size nursing bras.

And you can see our full resource here – The Best Plus Size Nursing Bras And Plus Size Pumping Bras

Don’t forget to grab a size-inclusive pumping bra and a few plus size nursing tanks too!

29. Plus Size Baby Carrier

It’s common to assume that baby carriers don’t fit larger bodies, but the reality is many carrier companies are size-inclusive!

The article, 11 Plus Size Babywearing Carriers And Wraps has some wonderful options, including two popular options above.

Before I end this list of plus size pregnancy gifts, one of the very best gifts someone can give you (or help you to pay for) during pregnancy is a doula!

Doulas provide physical, emotional, and educational support for you and your immediate family throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

You can learn a lot more here – Do I Need A Doula?

I hope you’ve found this plus size pregnancy gift guide helpful along with all the included tips! Did I miss anything? Please share any products you love in the comments below.
